5 Blog Post Ideas for Photographers

Having a blog as a photographer is almost essential at this point. It keeps your website updated, keeps new work moving onto your website which shows your ideal client that you are active, it keeps you looking credible, and allows you to be more easily found with new, easily shareable content (especially for the people who use Pinterest as a marketing tool which for photographers is huge).

Using your blog to share your work and your unique voice is an essential way to keep your site up to date. Every photographer does this differently. Some photographers just share their work where others might share tips, information, recaps, and more. No matter what you do for your blog, it is so important to have one. Especially in the photography industry.

If you are writing blog posts (or want to be), here are some ideas.

Blog Post Ideas for Photographers

Your best industry tips and tricks

If you are a wedding photographer this could look like “What Every 2022 Bride Forgets About” and list tips like assigning your Maid of Honor to bring an invitation for flat lays, or a reminder of golden hour pictures, or anything else that could possibly be helpful for a bride on her day.

If you are a family photographer you could share your best tips for keeping kids happy and smiling or how to show off your family’s personality in your family shoot (and you can show examples of photos where the personality really shines)

Recap a session

This is a strategy that most photographers already use, right? How will your future clients know what your work is like if you don’t show up on your website with your past sessions? It is tried and true. You can use keywords in your title and copy to improve your site’s SEO. Things like your location, your niche, think what people would search to find you.

Show the importance of light

Explain and show examples of why tearing your bride and groom away from their party at golden hour is so important. Show your families and couples how blue hour can create the mood they might want from their session.

Not only does this show why the time of their session will make an impact on their photos, you get to show off your hard work, talent, and unique style. Your future clients will learn from you and see you as an expert in your field.

Show an indoor vs outdoor session

Each of your clients is going to have specific tastes. One way to show them why you are the right photographer for them is to show your range. Show how you work with different lighting and environmental situations.

What would a session look like if it were in a studio? A field? In the mountains? An at home session? A forest? In the snow? And how does the environment impact the feel of the photos? Are they more casual or more formal? Show your dream clients all the different ways they could have a session with you! It will allow them to imagine what their session would be like and make them want to book with you!

Highlight a service

Do you travel or stay local? If you travel, talk about it! If not, show your audience how you can make your town magical. Do you offer a discount for engaged couples that also book their wedding with you? Highlight a couple that has and show your future couples why they should too! Do you offer Christmas minis? Fall family sessions? No one will know what you offer if you don’t talk about it.

Keeping up with your blog as a photographer is HUGE. It not only keeps you credible, but it allows you to show your current work. It also opens up the world of Pinterest marketing. Pinterest is the perfect place for photographers to market themselves, as so many people go to Pinterest for inspiration. You can be the inspiration. And when you are the inspiration, it is way more likely that people will want to book with you. Because they know how dang good you are at what you do. But I understand. It gets pushed to the back burner. You have sessions to edit and events to shoot. Editing is a full time job in itself! How are you supposed to make time for it all? It is a mystery of the universe. If only there was a way to magically have photos culled and blog posts written and pins scheduled for you… the magic of outsourcing is real.
